The man who went viral after being photographed carrying Nancy Pelosi's lectern during the US Capitol building riot has been arrested in Florida.

He has been named as 36-year-old Adam Johnson and was booked into the Pinellas County Jail around 9pm on Friday (8 January) on a warrant from the U.S. Marshal's office.

According to NBC Miami, Johnson lives in Parrish, located in nearby Manatee County. He is married to a local physician and has five children.

Allan Mestel, an acquaintance of Johnson, told Florida's WFLA News Channel 8 how he contacted the FBI when he realised he knew the man carrying the lectern - which belongs to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Mr Mestel said: "I felt a little disassociated for a minute. It was almost like, it was surreal. I mean it was surreal. I wasn't surprised, but I was shocked.

"Couldn't believe it, the fact that I recognize somebody from our hometown, was, I was floored."

Steven D'Antuono, assistant director of the FBI's Washington Field Office, told the press on Friday: "Just because you left the D.C. region, you can still expect a knock on the door if we find out that you were part of the criminal activity at the Capitol."

Well, at least we can put a name to a face now after people on Twitter thought that the man in the viral image was called 'Via Getty'.

So, while the caption aimed to show where the image had come from (Getty picture agency), others took it to mean something else.

In response to the image, one person said: "I want Via Getty and everyone else who participated in this domestic terrorism at the Capitol today arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Someone else said: "Boom! We got one of these MAGA chuds! Via Getty look him up I bet he flunked out of high school and f***s his sister! Via Getty that is his name let's get this guy and serve justice." A third pondered: "What kind of name is Via Getty?"

A fourth person, who thankfully understood what was meant in the caption, joked: "Via Getty's known accomplices include Staff Photo and Copyright Reuters."
