Three people have sustained burns in a suspected acid attack, it has been reported.

A "noxious substance" was thrown at a man, a woman and a two-year-old boy in Islington, north London, at 13:05 BST, Scotland Yard said.

The man suffered "potentially life-changing injuries", but is believed to be in a non life-threatening condition. The woman and boy suffered minor injuries.

Officers have yet to identify the exact substance used during the assault and have made no arrests as yet.

A Met spokesperson said: ""Police were called by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) on Saturday, 8 April shortly after 13:05 hours to reports of an assault in Copenhagen Street junction with Caledonian Road, N1.

"Three people - a man, woman and a two-year-old boy - were found with injuries consistent with a noxious substance being thrown.

"The woman and child suffered minor injuries. The man's injuries are not being treated as life threatening, however we await an update as to whether they are life-changing.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and ascertain what the substance is."

The two-year-old boy had minor chemical injuries on his hands and face, as did his 36-year-old mother. Firefighters treated their burns on-site with water from a fire hose before they were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

An investigation has been launched to discover the nature of the chemical.
