President Donald Trump recently vowed to protect statues of figures including former US leaders and Jesus Christ, having claimed that demonstrators in the States were plotting to attack such monuments.
Having last week signed an executive order on 'Building and Rebuilding Monuments to American Heroes', which mandates a 10-year prison sentence for anyone convicted of damaging federal monuments, Trump said: "They're looking at Jesus Christ, they're looking at George Washington, they're looking at Abraham Lincoln, they're looking at Thomas Jefferson. It's not going to happen."
However, now it seems Trump is so dedicated to his cause, that he's extended his pledge to... er, Brazil.

Sponsored ads have been popping up on social media that say the Trump campaign will be protecting none other than Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer statue, with a Facebook post from the 'Trump Make America Great Again Committee' saying: "The President wants to know who stood with him against the Radical Left.
"We're sending a list of EVERY AMERICAN who signs their name to President Trump first thing TOMORROW morning. Will he see your name?
"Add your name by 11:59 PM TONIGHT to stand with President Trump and to get on the list of supporters he sees!"
Then, underneath a photo of the Christ the Redeemer Statue, the message added: "WE WILL PROTECT THIS."
The eagle-eyed among you will realise that, unlike the other statues Trump and his team have focused on to date, Christ the Redeemer isn't actually in the United States.

If you're sat there thinking that the promise doesn't sound like one that would usually come out of Trump's camp, you're not alone.
Many people reckon someone had searched for an image of a Jesus Christ statue, and simply hadn't thought to check what country it was in.
One person tweeted: "In fairness, Christ the Redeemer is the first result when you search Google for 'Christ statue'... you shouldn't expect much more out of the Trump campaign."

Another joked: "When @realDonaldTrump said he was going to protect statues of Southern heroes, nobody had any idea how far south he was prepared to go."
Others simply found it bizarre as they felt there was any danger of any 'miscreants' tearing down the '120 feet tall, 635 metric ton Christ the Redeemer statue on top of a mountain in Rio de Janeiro'.
Which is also a fair point.
