A tsunami warning has been issued after a powerful earthquake stuck the Indonesian island of Lombok near Bali.

An alert issued by the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics said the 7.0-magnitude quake struck at a depth of 15km (9.3 miles) at 19:45pm local time, according to the Mirror.

The Independent reported that the warning comes just a week after a magnitude 6.4 quake killed 14 people on the island and prompted a large-scale evacuation of a volcano popular with hikers.

The quake was felt for several seconds in Bali, leaving people fleeing their houses, hotels and restaurants.

Michelle Lindsay, an Australian tourist, told the paper: "All the hotel guests were running so I did too. People filled the streets. A lot of officials were urging people not to panic."

Houses affected by the earthquake of 7.8 degrees on the richter scale, in Manta, Ecuador.

Other witnesses said the quake got stronger over several seconds and rattled windows and doors in their frames.

There have been no immediate reports of casualties.

Model, Chrissy Teigen, is currently in Bali with her husband John Legend and their children. She posted a series of tweets following the tremor.

They said: "oh my god", "Bali. Trembling. So long.", "Oh man. We are on stilts. It felt like a ride. 15 solid seconds of 'hooooooly shit this is happening'".

Her latest read: "Another. Oh dear lord".

There are no details at the moment about any damage that has been caused.
