Channel 4 Are Working On A Ghislaine Maxwell Documentary

Titled Who Is Ghislaine Maxwell?, the documentary is sure to be a hot topic if Netflix's Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich was anything to go by.

Following Netflix's Jeffrey Epstein documentary, Channel 4 has announced its working on a doc about Ghislaine Maxwell - an alleged chief culprit in the sex crimes committed by the deceased billionaire.

Maxwell was the subject of a number of allegations in the streaming platform's Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich investigative documentary and has since been arrested by the FBI for enticement of minors, sex trafficking and perjury.

Now, Channel 4 has announced we can expect a documentary on her, titled Who Is Ghislaine Maxwell? There's currently no indication of when we can expect it will be aired.

Commenting on the project, Danny Horan, Channel 4's Head of Factual, said: "There are likely to be numerous programmes made about the Maxwells, but this film focuses on the much-loved daughter whose charm, influence and family name was used in the most powerful circles over decades.

Horan went on to say: "This investigation seeks to uncover her role in one of the world's most prominent current scandals.

"This exploration of Ghislaine's life will include revelatory brand new testimony from those who knew her best. Shedding light on how and why, despite the rumours, she was able to sustain her privileged lifestyle for such a long time."

The documentary is to be directed by award-winning UK TV veteran Dorothy Byrne and is her first major project since she stepped down as Channel 4's head of news and current affairs last year.

It's set to focus on Maxwell growing up as the daughter of media baron Robert Maxwell, her life as a New York socialite and her eventual meeting with Jeffrey Epstein.

It's also going to include interviews with Maxwell's friends, lovers, colleagues, rivals and confidantes, 'many of whom producers say haven't spoken publicly before', The Hollywood Reporter notes.

Speaking to the publication about the documentary, Byrne said: "Rarely does a woman face the heinous charges to which Ghislaine Maxwell must answer in a New York court this summer.

"She was the golden child of the notorious fraudster Robert Maxwell, his Lady Ghislaine. An Oxford graduate, a socialite across two continents who became the associate of the notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and then founded a charity to save the oceans.

"A woman of many faces who has lived several different lives. But who is Ghislaine Maxwell really and what does her story tell us about high society in London and New York?"

Mike Lerner of Roast Beef Production - who will co-produce the doc alongside Channel 4 - elaborated on how they would also cover Robert Maxwell's impact on the main subject's life.

He said: "You cannot look at her life without examining his death, because his death and the revelations about his criminality meant that she went from being the daughter of a supposed billionaire to returning to more normal financial circumstances.

"And I think it is absolutely key."

Given the discussion that sprung up around the Epstein documentary, this could well be one of the TV events of the year.
