Residents in Hawaii were stunned when they saw what appeared to be a UFO fall from the sky and into the sea.

A number of people living at different locations across the island of Oahu claimed they had seen the large blue object hovering in the night sky at around 8.30pm on 29 December.

Speaking about the unexplained incident, a local resident known only as Moriah says she was outside her home when she saw the UFO flying over Princess Kahanu Estates.

The 38-year-old told Hawaii News Now: "I look up and then I was, like, 'oh s***'.

"I started calling my husband and them because they were all in the garage. I was, like, 'Hey, come look up there. See if you see what I see'. They all said yeah!

"I don't know what it was... This one was going so fast."

Residents and authorities have been left scratching their heads.

Despite saying she has never really believed in UFOs, Moriah jumped into her car and followed the object through the sky.

She added: "I don't know what it was. This one was going so fast. (It) went land in the water. Whatever it is.

"We called 911 for have like one cop or somebody for come out and come check em out."

And while the police were there, Moriah says she spotted yet another light.

"My husband went look up and he seen the white one coming. The white one was smaller. Was coming in the same direction as the blue one," she recalled.

But despite now having some time to think about the bizarre episode, Moriah says she's still baffled.

She told the publication: "To this day I don't know. If you guys can find out what it was, I like know, you know?"

Police reported the incident to the Federal Aviation Administration, however, the agency stated it had not received any 'reports of overdue or missing aircraft'.

One woman tried to follow it before it fell into the ocean.

A spokesperson for the police confirmed they too were at a loss as to the cause of the blue light.

This comes after residents in the Turkish city of Bursa were left scratching their heads after a mysterious spiralling object burnt brightly in the sky before breaking up as it neared the ground.

Footage of the unusual and unidentified object shows it spinning downwards leaving a trail of black smoke behind it.

Omer Akin, who filmed the clip, said: "We are a group from this neighbourhood, and we all grew up here. We were just hanging out on the terrace when we suddenly saw it.

"At that time, it continued to fall to the ground. Of course, we do not know where it fell and what happened to it. We were even joking and said that it might be an atom bomb."

One local resident speculated that it might be a crashed military aircraft that the country was keeping secret, or possibly a piece of a satellite as it was falling from a great height.
