A man and a woman who are believed to be the UK's most convicted couple have been arrested again after stealing a pensioner's wallet.

Lorna Walker, 39, and Peter Ellis, 51 have earned 452 convictions between them over the course of 26 years.

A significant chunk of their crimes are related to pick-pocketing pensioners, with the latest involving the pair jacking 79-year-old David Condron's wallet as he paid for a tram ticket in Manchester.

The Metro reports that Walker distracted Cordon while Ellis stole the goods, which included £50 cash to buy groceries as well as a bank card and an irreplaceable snap of the OAP's late mum.

During the court case at Minshull Crown Court on Tuesday (August 25), Ellis pleaded guilty to theft and was sentenced to 28 months.

Meanwhile, his partner Walker admitted to handling stolen goods and fraud, earning her 18 months of jail time.

In a victim statement, Cordon revealed how he was left 'distressed' after realising what had happened when he got to Farmfoods.

He said: "Another customer offered to pay and I did take them up on their kind offer - but it did embarrass me.

"I went to the bank to cancel my card and the bank staff told me that transactions were being made on my card as we spoke.

"While I am angry about the cards and the money, the most distressing thing is that in the wallet I had a picture of my late mother which I carried about with me for the last 20 years since she passed away, and that can't be replaced.

"I hope whoever is responsible gets whatever they deserve."

Ellis and Walker were both on license from jail at the time for committing similar crimes, with both having racked up 239 and 213 offences respectively.

The couple reportedly met in 2015, the same year they were both sentenced to two years after a three month crime spree in which they preyed upon old people in Manchester.

This was neither their last charge, and definitely not their first - it's believed their life of crime dates as far back as 1994.

Prior to meeting Ellis, Walker was in a girl gang who were known to pose as police officers and carers in order to gain access to vulnerable people's homes and belongings.

Although defence lawyer Chudi Grant argued Walker had a history of drug misuse, claiming that she 'expresses remorse', Judge Michael Leeming disagreed.

"Remorse is just a word, I cannot accept that you are genuinely remorseful," he said, adding that the picture of the Cordon's late mother was not something either of the thieves "remotely care about".
