A university student from Australia was sitting in a lecture when she realised she'd won AUD $4.8 million (£2.6m / US $3.4m) on the lottery.

The unnamed 20-year-old is from Glenelg, a town about 10km from Adelaide, and she says she was sitting in class when she got the news via email.

According to Aussie lottery brand The Lott, the shocked young woman broke down in tears when she realised she was a multi-millionaire.

She said: "I was actually at uni in a lecture and I checked my emails and saw one from you telling me I'd won something.

"I didn't think much of it, so I just logged into my account quickly and that's when I realised."

But instead of running out of the lecture and disappearing into the sunset, like many would have done, the patient young winner waited for the class to finish.

She explained: "I was just watching the clock, waiting for it to finish so I could call back."

And she's not going to blow her money on rubbish, like many her age would be tempted to do. Instead, she already plans to get on the property ladder, as well as treating her mum.

She added: "I really don't know where to start. I am still going to finish university, because it's something I really want to do.

"I would love to buy my mum a house and I'd love to get myself one too.

"Once we can travel, I would love to do heaps of trips around Australia and overseas."

The woman won on The Lott's 'Set For Life' game. It means that she'll get $20,000 (£10,900 / US $14,300) each month for the next 20 years.

And she's not the only young winner to get lucky with 'Set for Life'. A teenage data analyst from the UK scooped £120,000 (US $145,000) last year - with his first ever lottery ticket.

Sam Lawton, 19, was having a soak in the bath when he decided to play the National Lottery for the first time last August.

The lucky LAD was left gobsmacked after matching the winning numbers 3, 20, 26, 27 and 32 on the new Set for Life lottery game.

Sam purchased the ticket via an online mobile phone app for £1.50 ($1.80) and landed a cool £10,000 ($12k) a month for 12 months.

He said he wanted to splash out on driving lessons, a deposit for a new home and a holiday to New York with his delighted girlfriend, 20-year-old Connie Belle.
