A vegan has been handed a suspended prison sentence for stating she had 'zero sympathy' for a butcher killed in last week's terror attack.

The Metro reports that animal activist Myriam-Serge Jouglet took to Facebook to claim Christian Medves was an 'assassin' after he was shot dead in France by Islamic extremist Radouane Lakdim.

Moroccan-born Lakdim killed four people on Friday during a rampage in a supermarket in the town of Trèbes.

In a Facebook post that has since been taken down, Jouglet wrote: "What, it shocks you that an assassin is killed by a terrorist? Not me, I have zero compassion for him. Justice"

Following a legal complaint from France's butchers' federation, the post was removed and Myriam was charged with condoning terrorism, an act which carries a jail sentence of up to five years and a fine of €75,000 (£66,000) within French law.

The vegan cheese-maker appeared in court earlier this week and was given a seven month suspended prison sentence, which could lead to a served sentence if she re-offends.

The Mayor of Trèbes, Franck Alberti, described Medves - who was married with two daughters - as a family man ahead of his funeral.

He said: "He was the happy grandfather of a one-year-old granddaughter and his eldest daughter is expecting her second child. He was married and had two daughters."

The terrorist attack saw Lakdim kill three other people in addition to Christian, including Lieutenant Colonel Arnaud Beltrame who was hailed a hero after exchanging himself for a female hostage during the siege.

He was then stabbed several times while allegedly attempting to stop Lakdim. Sadly, his injuries proved fatal.

In addition, Jean Mazieres, 60, was killed during the carjacking and construction worker Herve Sosna, 65, was killed in the supermarket in which Lakdim launched his attack. The terrorist was eventually shot dead by the police.

It's for these reasons that Jouglet's comments were deemed unacceptable. Unbelievably, She wasn't the only one to condone a death following the terrorist attack.

Stéphane Poussier, who stood unsuccessfully for the La France Insoumise party, tweeted that Arnaud's death was 'great', adding that 'incidentally, it means one less Macron voter'.

The party immediately disassociated with the tweets, removing them and Poussier's twitter account and describing them as 'shameful'.
