One of the victims of the Istanbul New Year's eve massacre posted a haunting message, predicting her own death, to Facebook shortly before she travelled to the country.

Rita Chami, 26, was at the Reina nightclub with her fiancé, Elias Wardini, when a gunman burst in and fired off 120 rounds from an AK-47. The pair died at the club, according to news.com.au.

In a post on her Facebook page, before the pair flew to Turkey, she wrote: "Hopefully we will have fun, worst case scenario is that I will die in a blast and follow my mum." Rita's mum had recently died of cancer.

Rita and Elias had spent time travelling through Europe in the weeks leading up to New Year's eve.

The Sun reports that a friend of Elias took to Facebook to write: "Elias Wardini stayed behind because his fiancée was shot twice. He went back to help her and was shot three times and died in her arms. He loved her to the extent that he stayed behind to help her and it cost him his life."

The gunman, who killed 39 people and injured a further 70, has so far not been caught by authorities. The Turkish interior minister, Suleyman Soylu, said: "The search for the terrorist continues. I hope the killer will be captured quickly, God willing. This was a massacre, a truly inhuman savagery."
