Video Shows How Dirty Train Seats Are

A huge dust cloud can be seen erupting from the seat

Sometimes, depending on which country you are in, you expect a certain level of grim on public transport. Australia though, I would have imagined to be on my list of places with exemplary cleanliness on their train system. How wrong I was.

Thanks to Reddit user Empdizz, the truth has been exposed, and I can confirm that Sydney's train seats are not in fact clean.

If you're a regular user of train services, I would probably avoid looking at this because it will 100 percent ruin your commute.

Empdizz does the noble thing and in a daring exposé goes full force in to finding out the truth, banging the seat with his hand. His bare hand. A cloud of thick-looking brown dust erupts from the seat, covering the floor and resting on the top of the seat. Gross.

What is this made up of? Well, the answer is also not what you might want to hear. It's basically bits of dead skin particles, actual dirt and potentially dust mites too.

Giving the Sydney train service a piece of advice, Empdizz said: "They really need to vacuum these train seats."

One user responded: "I dislike placing my butt on those seats, let alone my bare hands... I admire your bravery."

Lavly.

Another confirmed that he thought it was a problem that stretches across the public transport system, adding: "Do the same thing to the bus seats and you'll see it too. Not just limited to the trains, but buses too."

Speaking to Metro, the company that run the train service said: "NSW TrainLink has a rigorous cleaning program where our trains are cleaned on a daily basis.

"We also have staff across the network who clean our trains throughout the day as well as frequent deep cleaning of our seats each week.

"With an average of more than 3.4 million intercity services each month, there are instances where common dirt and grime do occur on our trains."

But if you're worried about dirt, trains might be the last of your worries.

It turns out that your facial hair might actually be just as bad - if not worse.

This dog may be dirty, albeit cute, but it's still cleaner than your beard.

According to scientists, men with beards may carry bacteria in their chin hair which could be more dangerous to their health than dogs, which come off cleaner in general with lower levels of microbes.

It looks like those pesky germs are all around, guys; be careful out there.
