Vladimir Putin Responds To Andrei Karlov Killing
Vladimir Putin has spoken out after the assassination of ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov, today.
The Russian president said Karlov's killing was designed to tarnish Russian-Turkish ties as well as detract the government's bid to bring the Syrian civil war to an end.
It has emerged that the killer was a 22-year-old policeman named Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş, who died later after a 15-minute shootout with special Turkish police forces.

Putin added that security around the Russian embassies should be improved and has asked that Russian diplomats be provided better safety from Turkey.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed similar sentiments, saying the murder was "a provocation to damage the normalisation process of Turkish-Russian relations."
"But both the Russian and Turkish administrations have the determination not to fall for this provocation," he added.
