It absolutely sucks when you're fined for speeding, drink driving, going through a red light, being in a bus lane...whatever.

While you're doing the wrong thing and should be punished accordingly, it can mean a massive financial payout and even losing your licence, meaning you might not be able to get to work.

But, at the end of the day, you have to cop it because no one else will. However, one cheeky Aussie woman has tried to use people power to help her out of a tricky situation.

The Perth woman advertised on Facebook Marketplace, according to 7News.com.au, about whether anyone wanted to admit they were driving her car at the time, meaning they would get three points on their licence.

Facebook

"$300 cash in hand. $100 a demerit point," the woman wrote, "Only have 1 point left, need someone to take 3 points for me so I don't loose [sic] my licence. Pretty straight forward."

The ad has since been deleted from Marketplace so we'll never get to know whether anyone put their hand up to be the woman's knight in shining armour.

While it technically isn't illegal to advertise such a thing, police have warned that anyone who agrees to take the blame would end up in a lot of trouble.

West Australian lawyer Michelle Makela says: "The maximum penalty for fraud in Western Australia is generally seven years imprisonment. However, if the person deceived is over 60 years old then the maximum penalty increases to 10 years imprisonment."

We've seen what happens when this type of thing plays out after Adelaide basketballer Mitch Creek asked for one of his mates to take his demerit points.

"In need of a good samaritan who wants to make $200 for taking a 57kph in a 50 zone (which I thought was a 60)...I'm nearing my quota of bad driver points so I'll cover the fine and throw in some $$$," he wrote on Facebook.

"Any lovely folk interested in saving my butt?,'' Creek said

His basketball club, the Adelaide 36ers, released a statement at the time, saying: "Mitch is an outstanding captain and leader but on this occasion he has clearly not exercised good judgment.''

So take this as a lesson to you: don't go advertising people to take the heat for your crimes because it can and probably will come back to bite you a hell of a lot harder than a small fine.
