Woman Claims She Was Refused Entry To Louvre Due To Revealing Outfit

Woman Claims She Was Refused Entry To Louvre Due To Revealing Outfit

A woman has claimed she was refused entry to the Louvre museum in Paris, having said this was due to her outfit - which had apparently prompted guards to tell her to 'cover up'.

25-year-old Instagrammer Newsha Syeh, who's from Australia, says she felt 'heartbroken' after a security guard at the iconic museum made 'disgusted and horrible gestures' at her in relation to her clothing.

Syeh, who has 213,000 followers, shared the details of her experience in her Instagram Stories, writing: "Yesterday at the Louvre, I was stopped at the entrance by a guard for my outfit.

"He made the most disgusted and horrible gestures and facial expressions, swore at me to cover up, with hate filled eyes stopped me entering.

"I was heartbroken, because I thought the Louvre enforced this archaic rule. Turns out it does not."

According to the Louvre's website, visitors must 'demonstrate appropriate behaviour towards museum staff and other visitors' and it is therefore prohibited to 'wear swimsuits or be naked, barefoot or bare-chested'.

But Syeh told Fabulous that she's been to the Louvre wearing a similar outfit before, when she had 'no problem at all'.

"This was definitely a personal prejudice," she added.

Some people have commented on Syeh's Instagram photos to condemn Syeh's outfit.

One person said: "How about having a little respect for the other visitors? For Christ's sake, kids go to the Louvre! No one wants to see someone at a historic tourist attraction who is dressed like a prostitute on a street corner in the Red Light District."

Someone else commented: "This outfit is 100% inappropriate for anything outside of the bedroom. This is a museum, have some respect. Families are there. Children are there. The world does not need to see your breasts."

However, many of Syeh's followers have leapt to her defence in the comments section, praising her outfit and calling on social media users to stop 'slut-shaming'.

One said: "I'm sorry that happened. I think your outfit is the most beautiful thing. Biggest love."

Another added: "We are in the 21st century and there are still people that are hostile about what you're wearing and the way you wear it. I don't know what to say, only that I'm extremely speechless."

A third wrote: "Stop the slutshaming her! What is wrong with you guys! This is why women doubt and suffer, because you judge, all the time, no matter what you do. You can or can not agree with what happen to her at the Louvre, but do you have you slutshame her?"

Some others even claimed they'd had similar experiences, with one writing: "When I visited The Louvre with my sister a few years ago we wore winter clothes with boots and we got denied entry by security for being 'under dressed'.

"They were so rude about it too and cussed us out until we had no choice but to walk away feeling embarrassed. Your outfit is beautiful."
