CORRECTION: As of June 14, 2021, there has been no confirmation that 10 babies were born to Gosiame Thamara Sithole. They have not been seen in public and there are no photos of them and the birth has note been verified by any local hospital or doctor. The South African Government has not been able to confirm the claim. LADbible also published a story several days later in which the alleged father denied the existence of the babies, along with Sithole's claims. You can read that here. The original story was provided by an external news agency. LADbible is happy to clarify these points.

A woman in South Africa falsely claimed to have set a world record by giving birth to 10 babies in the same pregnancy.

Gosiame Thamara Sithole, 37, said gave birth to decuplets at a hospital in Pretoria on 7 June. This has not been verified, however, and was also denied by the alleged father.

According to Eyewitness News, a statement issued on Tebogo's behalf on Tuesday 15 June read: "Tebogo confirmed that he has not seen the decuplets and relied on his girlfriend who called to inform him of their birth. He made several attempts to visit his girlfriend and the babies but she has failed to disclose her whereabouts and the condition of their babies.

"The current uncertainties and public discourse about the decuplets is of major concern to the family, especially in the absence of any proof of the decuplets existence other than telephonic and WhatsApp messages from the mother.

"The family has resolved and concluded that there are no decuplets born between Tebogo Tsotetsi and Gosiame Sithole, until proven otherwise and wishes to apologise for any inconvenience and embarrassment."

Sithole is a retail store manager and also has twins aged six.

Sithole, hails from the township of Thembisa in the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality - where local government and hospital official were unable to confirm the pregnancy, the birth or any of Sithole's claims.

Mediclinic Medforum Hospital in Pretoria - where Gosiame told Tebogo she gave birth - has since confirmed that it did not treat her.

Tertia Kruger, a spokesperson for Mediclinic hospital group, told TimesLIVE: "We can confirm that none of our facilities were involved in the obstetric care of this patient or her decuplets."

Tebogo's statement went on to urge members of the public to stop making donations to the family until Gosiame has been found and their existence has been verified.

It read: "We call on members of the public to stop donating money into any bank accounts for the decuplets.

"We appreciate the public interests and support for the decuplets, and with no proof of their existence we firmly believe it's in the interests of everyone to conclude that they do not exist, until proven otherwise.

"We will now shift our attention to finding Gosiame Sithole whilst praying for her safe return."
