A couple who chained themselves together as the ultimate test of love have found out there's a huge downside to being that close to each other - after one of them developed 'very painful' ulcers.

Viktoria Pustovitova, 28, and Alexander Kudlay, 33, decided to chain themselves to one another for three months, claiming they managed to master everything from washing dishes and cooking food to going to the toilet and driving in their car.

But Viktoria has now developed painful burns on her wrist thanks to the chain that binds her to Alexander, and had to seek medical help.

Alexander said: "We smeared on ointment but it did not bring any result.

"It is a nightmare."

The couple, from Kharkiv in Ukraine, went to hospital, where Viktoria was told to wear a tight bandage.

Dermatologist Tatyana Egorova warned the duo on 360TV that they may have to abort their ambitious mission.

She said: "These are ulcers from prolonged contact with metal, from constant clamping of the tissues, leading to circulatory disorders."

While Viktoria and Alexander have been able to get by with most of their daily tasks, they say using a toilet in a restaurant or public place poses a bit of a problem.

Viktoria prefers to use the female toilet, but there have been complaints when she ends up bringing Alexander along too.

They also refused to reveal details of their sex lives while chained together, simply saying: "We do not speak about this."

However, they say their work lives have been fine, with Alexander selling car parts online while beautician Viktoria is 'training' during lockdown.

Alexander said their unusual challenge had been his idea, claiming his girlfriend used to move out after the 'slightest quarrel'.

He explained: "I jokingly said - 'I'll tie you up. Why do you need all this running around?'

"In the end we did so.

"Viktoria didn't really agree at first, but I convinced her."

Their chain is welded together, meaning they would need to enlist the help of the emergency services to be freed from each other.

They wear specially developed clothing, with zips from top to bottom that enable them to dress and undress without having to use any Houdini-like contortions.
