Woman Dies After Passing Out On Theme Park Roller Coaster

A woman has died after passing out on a roller coaster.

Dawn R. Jankovic, from Brunswick, Ohio, fell unconscious while riding The Voyage roller coaster at Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana, last week.

According to the theme park, the woman returned to the ride's station on Friday (4 June) evening 'unresponsive', with the park's emergency team arriving just minutes later and provided first aid.

Ms Jankovic was then taken to the nearby Memorial Hospital in Jasper, Indiana, for further treatment.

Sadly, however, the 47-year-old died later that same night.

The park's post on its Facebook page read: "Earlier this evening, a female Guest returned to the station of The Voyage roller coaster unresponsive.

"Holiday World EMTs arrived three minutes later and immediately began to render first aid. The Guest was transported via ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Jasper, Indiana.

"At this point, the Guest's name has not been released. A full inspection of the roller coaster has been performed, and it was determined that the ride operated as it was intended to.

"The ride remained closed for the evening out of respect for the family. Holiday World & Splashin' Safari officials ask for your thoughts and prayers for the Guest and her family, as well as for Team Members who were onsite."

Dubois County Coroner Katie Schuck formally identified the woman and confirmed that an autopsy had taken place.

The results, she said, are pending notification of Ms Jankovic's family members.

The tragic death comes just weeks after Holiday World celebrated its 75th season, with The Voyager now in its 15th year.

According to reports, the ride was named 'The Best Wooden Roller Coaster' by Amusement Today magazine for several years a decade ago.

Last year, a woman tragically lost her life at a theme park in France after she fell from a roller coaster.

The woman was out with her family to celebrate her two-year-old child's birthday when she plunged from the Formula 1 ride at the Parc Saint-Paul near Beauvais.

A horrified eyewitness told the Courrier Picard she had seen the woman's husband desperately try to save her by grabbing her foot.

She said: "We heard screaming and then I saw the lady fall. She went over the bar and her husband tried to catch her by her foot."

Another eyewitness told the newspaper: "We have seen children feeling sick or crying. Some were at the top when the carousel stopped."

Tragically, despite attempts to save her, the woman died at the scene.
