A 23-year-old woman found out she was pregnant just two hours before she gave birth, after going to hospital with what she though was a kidney stone.

Lizzie Quah, a ballet teacher from Bloomington, Illinois, told her shocking story via a TikTok video, as is the norm nowadays, explaining how she went to the emergency room after waking up with severe cramps at 2.30am on 23 June 2019.

She described the pain as the 'worst period cramps of her entire life' and when she thought she was having 'another kidney stone' she asked her mum to take her to hospital.

"So [I got] admitted and in order to give you the drugs for the kidney stone they have to make sure you're not pregnant," she says in the video.

She then discovered she was pregnant and shockingly was already eight centimetres dilated when she had her first exam.

She explains: "Turns out [I was] actually eight centimetres dilated and in active labor and having a baby that night."

Two hours after finding out she was pregnant, Lizzie said she 'pushed out a full term baby', which weighed 6lbs 7oz.

Making everything even more stressful than being unexpectedly thrown into motherhood, Lizzie was also told by medics that she was suffering from some incredibly serious conditions: placenta previa, toxemia and preeclampsia.

Speaking to Buzzfeed, Lizzie said it 'felt exactly like a kidney stone'. She continued: "I had one around three years ago, and it was the worst pain I'd ever experienced. It was severe cramping/searing pain in my lower back and lower abdomen, it really felt like someone was pulling me apart from the inside out, which ironically was kind of what was actually happening!"

She explained that she had had no symptoms and no idea she was pregnant, adding: "I gained a little bit of weight, but only enough where I felt like I needed to get back into my workout routine... I was working more than I ever had in the last six months before she was born, and was eating really unhealthy.

"I had stopped going to the gym because I was so busy, so I attributed that to my slight weight gain. I was more tired than normal, and wanted to take more naps than I used to, but again I attributed that to working all the time."

Lizzie now has a healthy happy baby girl, Winnie June, who is 11 months old.
