Woman Falls Into Shopping Centre Shark Tank During Feeding Time

The woman was apparently late for a meeting when she took a shortcut and fell

There are some things we all fear: dying alone, the rising of the machines and falling into a tank full of sharks.

Unfortunately, one of these fears became a reality for a woman in China after she died alone.

Sorry, not that one, though that might have happened. No this story is about a woman in China who fell into a tank full of sharks.

Footage from the Wuyue Plaza shopping complex in Jiaxing, in East China's Zhejiang province, shows a woman running along a gangway above a suspended glass tank full of sharks.

Unfortunately for her, she doesn't seem to notice the lid is open, tripping over it and falling gut first into the far edge of the tank opening, before sliding into the water.

The woman is an employee of the shopping centre and she had chosen to run along the gangway as a shortcut because she was late for a meeting, according to a shopping centre spokesman. However, access to the gangway is forbidden during feeding time, which is incidentally one of the worst times to fall into a shark tank.

Fortunately for the employee, her colleagues quickly came to her aid, with two security guards selflessly jumping in to help retrieve her. It was also fortunate the sharks in the tank were baby lemon sharks, rather than say great whites or sharks with friggin' laser beams attached to their friggin' heads.

However, she was almost definitely late for her meeting.

A spokesman for the shopping centre said the woman was left with nothing more than wet clothes following the accident.

He said: "The gangway is off limits during feeding time but the employee was in a rush to get to a meeting.

"She was quickly rescued from the tank and did not suffer any injuries."

But why on earth is there a massive tank of sharks in the shopping centre in the first place? Well it's an attraction of course, because people decide if and where to shop based on whether or not there may be shark tanks to look at, apparently.

Now, let us all make sure this woman didn't fall into that tank for nothing. Let her serve as a reminder to us all to take a moment next time we're running late and think, 'how bad is it going to be if I am late?'. If we all just ourselves this brief moment of repose, then we are all far less likely to take shark-based shortcuts.
