A woman claims she has been left without her sight in one eye and partially sighted in the other after glue being used to stick on her false eyelashes got into her eyes.

The 41-year-old woman, who has not been named, was having some false eyelashes put on at a salon in Porto Velho, the capital of the Brazilian state of Rondonia, when the incident occurred.

She later shared pictures of her scarred face and claimed she'd completely lost the use of one of her eyes, and suffered damage to her other during the procedure.

According to the Brazilian newspaper G1, the woman has also told the police and health authorities about the botched eyelash application.

They reported that she informed the staff at the beauty salon that she couldn't see anything out of her right eye, and that her vision was limited in her left.

She then left the salon and went home, but decided to seek emergency medical treatment at a nearby health clinic when the pain didn't subside.

Her sister has since spoken to the press and criticised the lack of assistance her sibling had been given at the time by the beauty professional.

She said: "She could have at least taken her to a UPA. The doctor said that if she had gone immediately, she might have been able to avoid the damage that was eventually caused."

The sister, who has also chosen to remain anonymous, said she's now handed over a complaint to the authorities, and that she'd also appointed a lawyer to deal with the matter.

It is expected that a full medical report detailing the incident - and the injuries that allegedly occurred - will be available in around 15 days.

The Brazilian newspaper said that they had tried to contact the beauty parlour in question, but had yet to receive a response at the time of publication.

In an angry and emotional Facebook post, the woman's sister wrote: "This neglect is the fault of the professional. Nobody here is saying that it was not an accident, we are saying that she did not provide help and left her in pain.

"We have not exposed the author of the injury, just facts about what happened, with the relevant evidence."

It is not yet clear whether the woman's injuries are permanent or not.
