There's nothing worse than a bout of bad sunburn. When it gets you, it really gets you - shivers and all. You can't sleep, can't stretch and try simply everything to get rid of it.

However, one woman reckons she has found a 'miracle healer', which is perhaps a little more obscure than you'd bargained for - although you've probably got it in your house.

Cindie Allen-Stewart from Texas uses shaving cream. Menthol shaving cream to be exact.

She smothers it all over her burnt areas, leaves it 30 minutes and Bob's your uncle. Simple as that.

Well not quite as simple as that because Cindie clarified: "It's 30 minutes, rinse. The next day, if you still feel hot areas of a burn, reapply. Then wait another 30 minutes and rinse."

Still pretty simple though.

The stay-at-home mother posted pictures of her application to social media to inform other people of her discovery.

Unfortunately for Cindie, she had some painful-looking red sunburn on her back and thought it would be a good opportunity to share her wisdom.

Since being posted in 2018, the post has attracted 43,000 likes and a whopping 233,000 shares, showing it's clearly a relatable topic.

Cindie explained her husband was the one who initially shared his home remedy with her, after learning it from his own mother.

She used shaving cream purchased on Amazon after struggling to find menthol-infused foam in stores.

She wrote: "It may seem like it's a strange shaving ritual, but trust me! Don't rub it in, just let it sit on your skin. It will start bringing all that heat out (you'll be able to feel it).

"Then, after about 30 minutes, the shaving cream will seem like it has dissolved in spots. It will seem like it's not as moist and a little dried out. You will feel as if you're becoming a little cold, at least on the sunburned part of your body. THAT IS A GOOD SIGN!

"Next, rinse it off in a lukewarm or cool shower or bath. It's just to get the residue off."

While there is no scientific evidence to suggest that shaving cream works as a sunburn remedy, it is believed that the menthol contained in many products can help soothe the burns.

Wouldn't be as easy to apply Listerine though, would it?
