A very 2020 Christmas

A woman's festive duet with her pop star boyfriend went badly wrong after she accidentally set fire to her hair mid-song.

Sofia Ellar, who was born in the UK but now lives in Madrid, shared a clip of what should have been a sweet Christmas moment with her other half Alvaro Soler, 29, but in true 2020 style it was quickly ruined.

In the clip, Sofia, 27, and Alvaro are singing 'Feliz Navidad' in front of their beautifully decorated tree and, importantly, some lit candles.

At one point during the song, Sofia tilts her head back and unwittingly sets her hair on fire by brushing the candles which are set up behind her.

They continue to sing as her hair burns and singes, before Sofia realises she is alight and says: "Oh my God" as her boyfriend jumps up to come to her aid.

To add to the chaos, as she attempts to run off, she knocks over a glass of champagne on the way.

Thankfully, Sofia wasn't injured in the incident, although she does seem to lose quite a few inches off her hair.

But she even managed to see the funny side.

Posting the clip, she wrote: "2019, we were good. 2020, we light fires and drop glasses. Hello 2021."

She later shared another, incident-free, clip of her and Alvaro wishing her 350,000 Instagram followers a merry Christmas.

Earlier this year, a bloke from South Yorkshire ruined his romantic marriage proposal after accidentally setting his flat on fire.

Sharing the unfortunate tale on Twitter, South Yorkshire Fire wrote that three crews were called out to a flat fire in Sheffield and began to quiz the man on what had happened.

The loved-up fella revealed he had gone all out and turning his flat into the perfect romantic setting - filling the room with hundreds of tealights to set the mood ahead of popping the question.

Alongside the candles, the man also filled the room with balloons and got 'a nice bottle of wine'.

After setting up he nipped out to pick up his girlfriend - leaving the candles unattended - and when they returned the room was on fire.

But it wasn't all bad news, as his girlfriend said 'yes'.
