When in dangerous situations, sometimes we need to think very carefully about the opportunity to escape and often when the chance arises we grip it and run. Literally.
This is what one woman did as she slipped veterinary staff a note pleading to be rescued from her partner after claiming he had held her a gunpoint threatening to kill her and her family.
Carolyn Reichle, 28, gave the note to a member of staff on Friday which read: "Call the cops. My boyfriend is threatening me. He has a gun. Please don't let him know."
CNN reports that she had allegedly been held in her home for two days but convinced her boyfriend, Jeremy Floyd, that the dog needed to go to the vets, according to a police report.

Floyd, 39, insisted on going with her and on the car ride he pointed a loaded gun at her and threatened to kill her and her family.
According to a report by Volusia County Sheriff's Office, Floyd was found to be carrying a loaded gun and was arrested after the veterinary hospital called the police.
Reichle was treated for a head injury, a black eye and bruised arms. She told officers that her ordeal began on Wednesday when Floyd allegedly threatened her at gunpoint and stopped her from leaving.

She told authorities that she attempted to get the gun away from him and during the struggle the weapon went off twice.
Police did in fact locate two bullet holes in drywall inside the home.
FOX spoke to Reichle's neighbour, Winsome Aiken, who said: "It's really strange. It's not supposed to be happening."
Floyd has now been charged with domestic violence, aggravated assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and battery.

He is being held without bail at the Volusia County Branch Jail, according to CNN, and it's unclear whether he has legal representation. He has been arrested more than a dozen times, going back to 2003.
Earlier this year, Andrej Uspensk spent three months bombarding his ex-girlfriend, Tatjana Novitjenko, with angry text messages and emails as well as flowers to her Chelsea home.
But the 38-year-old took it a bit far when he sent Novitjenko a sex toy for her birthday and a photo-shopped picture of a Chihuahua 'drowning' in the Thames.
