A young woman has terminated her pregnancy after six months after doctors informed her she was carrying a 'mermaid-like' foetus, The Mirror reported.
Wu, 23, decided to take the action after having a scan at the Health Care Center for Women and Children in Yichang City, in Central China's Hubei Province.
Specialists estimated that the baby would only survive for a few hours after birth, which prompted Wu to opt for a termination.

The scans showed the foetus had developed a 'tail-like growth' instead of legs. It had a stunted liver and did not have a bladder.
Doctors at the hospital told Wu the foetus was suffering from sirenomelia, a rare condition often referred to as 'Mermaid Syndrome'.
The causes behind sirenomelia are still unknown, but it occurs once in every 100,000 pregnancies.
It is a rare congenital deformity in which the legs are fused together, giving them the appearance of a mermaid's tail.
According to reports, there are only two known survivors of Mermaid Syndrome in the world today.
