Woman's Hot Water Bottle 'Summer Hack' Helps Keep You Cool At Night

A woman has shared a nifty 'summer hack' that helps you sleep when it's hot - and all you'll need is a hot water bottle.

TikTok user Sam Batterson (@sambatterson5) posted the trick last year when the UK was enjoying a bit of a heatwave, though with warmer weather finally back in our lives, it's a good one to remember.

In the video, she explains that you just need to get a bog-standard hot water bottle, filling it not with hot water but 'half-cold' water, before popping it into the freezer.

You then get the cooled hot water bottle and lay it in your bed an hour before you're planning to go to sleep so you can lay down onto perfectly chilled sheets.

As a step up, you can even slide the hot water bottle into a pillow to lean on.

Batterson said: "If you're in the UK right now and you know the heatwave, you're gonna want to know this hack.

"Fill your hot water bottle up with half-cold water, put it in the freezer - I left mine in all day - and then you're literally just gonna pop it in your bed an hour before you go to sleep.

"And when you get in your bed it's literally gonna be so cold.

"Put [the hot water bottle] in your pillow case, or just rest it on it. It's amazing."

In a comment, she later advised: "3 things: 1) please don't do this too often as the ice can damage the seal 2) only fill it 2/3s up as it expands!! 3) be careful of ice burns."

To be on the safe side, you're probably best off not reusing the hot water bottle to fill with hot water in the future, as the seal may have been affected.

Also watch out for damp patches in your bed - make sure you've got a mattress protector laid down if you want to avoid making it wet.

Batterson's video racked up more than 123,000 likes and 976,000 views, along with thousands of comments.

Many fellow TikTokers said the hack was a 'smart' idea, and that they'd be trying it out for themselves.

One wrote: "Why have I never thought of this before?!?!? COLD PILLOWS. I'm so excited."

Another added: "You my friend are going to heaven, no doubt!!"
