All full-time workers at Woolworths will be gifted $750 worth of shares in the company as a thank you for working through the coronavirus pandemic.

Staff have been under the pump for months, dealing with long shifts, difficult customers, outbreaks of violence, empty shelves and other tough conditions.

As a result, they've ben rewarded for their hard work. The shares won't be able to be touched for three years, however employees will still be able to keep them even if they leave the company.

Part-time employees will also be given a gift in the form of shares on a pro-rata basis.

Woolworths Group CEO Brad Banducci said in a statement: "From protests in Hong Kong, droughts and bushfires in Australia to the devastating volcanic activity in New Zealand and finally COVID-19, we have pulled together as a team to support each other, our customers and the communities in which we live and operate.

"This has taken an enormous amount of hard work and dedication and through our collective commitment we have indeed lived our purpose of creating better experiences together for a better tomorrow.

"We could think of no better way to thank and recognise our team than by making them shareholders in our Group.

"I'd like to thank our team once again for their continued support during these extraordinary times."

The offer will only apply to staff members who were employed before March 1 of this year.

In addition to the shares, part-time and full-time who don't participate in the Group's ST, will also get $250 in Team Member PlusCard credits.

So all up, some staff members could be getting a nice $1,000 in their pockets.

Mr Banducci added: "Today's recognition announcement has been carefully considered by our Board and Group Leadership to enable us to extend recognition to as many of our team as possible.

"I'd like to thank our team once again for their continued support during these extraordinary times."
