Woolworths has revealed it will still pay casual workers for their scheduled shifts if they don't come into work because of coronavirus.

Aussies who work on a casual basis have been concerned about the outbreak of Covid-19 because of its necessity to self-isolate for two weeks.

A fortnight of no work could cripple a person's ability to pay bills and afford food.

However Woolies is stepping up to ensure that anyone who has to miss a shift due to the virus will be compensated for their rostered hours.

A spokesperson for the company told 10daily: "Team members who are required to be absent from work due to coronavirus (either due to their own self-isolation, illness or their need to care for others), should not be disadvantaged based on their employment status or the availability of personal leave.

"We've made it clear to our team that we'll look after anyone impacted by the outbreak whether they're full-time, part-time or casual.

"This is not only the right thing to do by those team members but also an important measure to ensure everybody in our business takes appropriate action in response to public health advice."

The company is the largest private employer of causal workers in the country and this move will affect 55,000 staff.

Those who are part of full-time staff have been advised to take personal leave if they find themselves in a situation where they have to self-isolate. But the company has given these employees a maximum of two weeks additional personal leave if they've already used theirs up.

The government today unveiled a massive $17.6 billion stimulus package that to keep the Australian economy going through the coronavirus outbreak.

One of the big winners was the more than six million welfare recipients (including pensioners, carers, veterans, families, young people and the unemployed), who will get a one-off payment of $750.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg hopes the recipients will use the money wisely.

He said: "It's not for us to tell those Australians how to spend their money.

"But what we do know from experience is that they will spend that money, and that money will encourage economic activity.

"And the more economic activity that we see through the June quarter, in particular, will be important."

Small businesses will get tax breaks on some items to encourage them to keep spending in the local economy.

Scott Morrison also revealed that anyone who contracted Covid-19 and had to self-isolate will be able to access Newstart payments.
