US WW2 Soldier And French Woman Reunited 75 Years After Falling In Love

A 98-year-old American soldier who fell in love with a young French woman during World War II has finally had the chance to see her again and told her he still loved her.

The scene took place in France on the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landing with French TV crews there to film the scene as the two embraced for the first time in three quarters of a century.

When he saw her, K.T. (Kara Troy) Robbins said: "I always loved you. You never got out of my heart."

He then showed her a picture of her he had kept for all those years.

In 1944, K.T. Robbins was stationed with his regiment in Briey, in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in north-eastern France during World War 2, where he fell in love with a young 18-year-old French girl called Jeannine.

Their relationship was cut short after two months when he had to leave and was rushed to the eastern front.

When he returned to America, Robbins eventually got married, but he never forgot about Jeannine whose surname is Pierson but her maiden name was Ganaye.

The meeting came about when a French TV crew doing a piece on (WWII) veterans in America came across a photograph of the young French woman in Robbins' photo albums.

The France 2 team were told by Robbins that he wanted to go back to France to find her family.

He told them: "I probably won't see her. She is no doubt dead."

However, the French journalists tracked her down and found that at 92 years old, she was still alive.

Jeannine had said: "When he left in the truck, I cried, of course, I was very sad.

"I wish after the war he hadn't returned to America."

Since the war, she learned some English, hoping that he would some day come back to her.

After a few hours together, it was time to leave as Robbins had to head to Normandy, and with tears in their eyes and having agreed to meet up again, Robbins said: "Jeannine, I love you girl."
