Nick Cannon Chose Not To Have His Son Undergo Chemotherapy

Nick Cannon has revealed that he chose not to have his son undergo chemotherapy to treat his cancer.

Earlier this month, the entertainer announced the sad news that his five-month-old son, Zen, had died from a brain tumour.

But the 41-year-old has now opened up about his boy's passing.

Speaking to People magazine, the 41-year-old explained that he had undergone chemotherapy and that he didn't want Zen to go through the same thing.

He told the publication: "We were having quality-of-life conversations.

"We could have had that existence where he would've had to live in the hospital, hooked up to machines, for the rest of the time. "From someone who's had to deal with chemotherapy before, I know that pain.

"To see that happen to a two-month-old, I didn't want that. I didn't want him to suffer."

Cannon confirmed the tragic news that he had lost his seventh and youngest child on his talk show, Nick Cannon, last week.

He said: "Over the weekend, I lost my youngest son to a condition called hydrocephalus... brain cancer.

"It’s tough. And I have my therapist here, who’s been helping us through it."

The TV presenter explained how an appointment with the doctor, which he thought would be routine, proved to be far more serious.

"I always noticed he had a cough and so I wanted to check it out," he recalled.

"He had this interesting breathing and by the time he was two months I noticed he had this nice sized head too - a cannon head.

"We didn’t think anything of it. But I wanted to take him to the doctor for his sinus and breathing. We thought it would be routine."

Zen had brain surgery but his condition deteriorated over the Thanksgiving period.

Cannon said: "This weekend I made an effort to spend the most quality time with Zen. 

"We woke up on Sunday and went to the ocean with him and Alyssa [Zen's mum] and then I had to fly back to New York for the show.

"I got a call on my way to the airport to head back to Zen."

Model Alyssa Scott gave birth to Zen on 23 June and Cannon said she had been 'the strongest he's ever seen'.

He said: "I gotta say thank you to my entire family but specifically to Alyssa."
