Out Of Control Seagull Steals £300 Worth Of Food From Tesco

A seagull named Steven has gotten himself in hot water for frequently robbing the local Tesco Extra.

A seagull named Steven has gotten himself in hot water for frequently robbing the local Tesco Extra. Catch the clip here:

You wouldn't normally attribute any aspect of self-control to seagulls - who are known for soaring down and nabbing your fish and chips or trying to gulp down Nemo as six-year-old you screamed in horror at the TV - but one stealthy seagull has really taken the biscuit.

Although it wasn't a biscuit so-called Steven Seagull fancied, but a packet of Mini Cheddars - among around £300 worth of other goods shoplifted from his local Tesco Extra in Paignton, Devon.

Steven the seagull has been reported by the Tesco branch's staff as being particularly partial to not just Mini Cheddars, but also Monster Munch and Tangy Cheese Doritos.

The pesky seagull has since been named Steven.

Liam Brown managed to capture the slinky seagull on camera.

He said: "I’ve seen him go in a few times. This time he hopped on to my car bonnet so I started recording — I knew he was up to something.

"He jumped down and started chewing gum off the floor, then he walked into the shop and ran off with a pack of Mini Cheddars."

One shopper, Jenni Elliott, explained she'd also seen Steven up to his tricks, flying off 'with a bag of Doritos' before he 'shared them with a mate on a roof over the road'.

"I told the cashier he’d just strutted off with some Doritos and she said, ‘Oh, he likes those’," Lisa Buck said.

An employee of the store noted it was a 'common occurrence'.

Steven isn't the only seagull wreaking havoc on his local neighbourhood either, as Cedric, the giant and 'evil' bird has also been reported as stealing.

However, Cedric doesn't fancy food, but dog toys; 'hanging around' locals and their pets, 'teasing' and taunting the animals who are left gawking as he picks up their playthings and sips from their water bowls.

Despite his unhealthy diet of mostly crisps, Steven gets his steps in by trotting back and forth in and out of the shop at least three times every day.

While Steven's choices in crisps are commendable, the seagull has racked up a hefty £300 sum in stolen goods from stealing over 17kg of food.

As much as I'm sure Steven would love to try and shift the blame onto Cedric, a Tesco employee noted how all the staff very much believe 'it's the same gull'.
