Joe Biden has been announced as America's newly-elected president and his wife Jill shared a picture of the pair to mark the moment.

The snap showed them holding a sign which reads: "Dr & Vice President Biden live here" with the word 'Vice' covered up by Jill's hand, pointing to the fact that Joe used to serve as the 47th vice president from 2009 to 2017.

Alongside the picture, Jill wrote: "He will be a President for all of our families." Lovely.

Fans seemed to love the photo but then started to notice what the 77-year-old was actually wearing on his head... a hat, yes. But it has the words 'We Just Did' printed on the front of it.

This is seemingly a nudge at Donald Trump's infamous 'Make America Great Again' caps.

The hat also features the number 46 because Biden is to become the 46th POTUS after days of uncertainty.

Democratic candidate Biden eventually passed the 270 Electoral College votes needed to remove Donald Trump from the White House with the declaration of the results from Pennsylvania.

However, despite Biden now claiming the necessary number of votes from states, this election is far from over, given the nature of the response from the Republican Trump campaign.

Trump has offered several press conferences over the past few days in which he has claimed that the election has been rigged against him, and made allegations of absentee ballot fraud.

Biden was declared the winner as the vote counting continued into its fifth day - after he was given a lead of more than 30,000 votes in Pennsylvania around 4pm UK time.

Biden's running mate, Kamala Harris will be both the first woman and person of colour to be elected Vice President.

In a tweet, sharing the same video as Biden, she wrote: "This election is about so much more than @JoeBiden or me.

"It's about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let's get started."
