Nigel Farage is sure to be disappointed with the news that Joe Biden has won the US election, having placed a whopping £10,000 bet on Donald Trump holding on to his presidency.

An overly hopeful Farage shared a snap of himself on Twitter as the polls closed earlier this week, in which he revealed he'd made the large wager.

Alongside the photo he wrote: "The first polls are closing and I am absolutely optimistic."

The photo appeared to show that Farage had been offered odds of 15/8, meaning he'd have netted £28,750 had his pal won.

And that optimism carried on, with a follow up tweet reading: "Trump is now odds on to win in the betting markets. The pollsters could be wrong again."

Farage had thrown his support behind Trump, even speaking at one of his rallies where he called the President 'the bravest person' he's ever met.

Speaking at the event in Goodyear, Arizona, he said: "Four years ago, I was honoured to come to America to bring the Brexit message... the message that you can beat the Establishment

"That is what Donald Trump did.

"He beat the pollsters. He beat the media. He beat all the predictions. And here's the worst bit, they've never forgiven him for it."

He went on to say: "Four years of the Russia hoax, four years of a false impeachment.

"Most human beings under that barrage would have given up.

"This is the single most resilient and bravest person I have ever met in my life!

"You are voting for the only current leader in the free world who has the guts to stand up for the nation state, to fight for patriotism, to fight against globalism."

Trump praised Farage as he left the stage, telling the audience: "I'm glad I called him up. That's something."

Despite Farage's efforts, Biden was today announced the winner.

Meanwhile, Biden's running mate Kamala Harris made history becoming both the first woman and person of colour to be elected Vice President.
