North Korea has warned that they are 'ready for war' if the United States attacks the region, according to the BBC.

At the moment, a US aircraft carrier group is heading for the country.

The comments were made by Choe Ryong-hae, who is believed to be the country's second most powerful official. He said: "We're prepared to respond to an all-out war with an all-out war.

"We are ready to hit back with nuclear attacks of our own style against any nuclear attacks."

On Friday, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned that 'conflict could break out at any moment'. He added that if war occurred 'there could be no winner'.

Since President Donald Trump took office in January, tensions between Pyongyang and Washington have reached an all time high. Trump is concerned that China hasn't done more to stop North Korea's nuclear and missile programmes.

Trump's tweets have come under fire for escalating the situation.

North Korea's official KCNA news agency quoted its military as saying in a statement: "Our toughest counteraction against the US and its vassal forces will be taken in such a merciless manner as not to allow the aggressors to survive."

The region unveiled what looks like new intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) at their Day of the Sun parade. They seem to be intercontinental and submarine-launched ballistic missiles. This has raised more concerns that they are looking to develop missiles that could attack the US.

Melissa Hanham, a senior research associate at the US based Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, told Mail Online: "North Korea has a habit of showing off new concepts in parades before they ever test or launch them,

"It is still early days for these missile designs."
