Andy Murray Drops Precious Commemorative Plate Presented To Him In China

For a guy who is ordinarily known for his speed of reflexes and athletic prowess, Andy Murray has had a bit of a shocker ahead of a tournament in China this week.

He was being presented with a commemorative gilded plate that was a gift to recognise his contribution to tennis in China, but as he was holding it up for the camera the plate fell straight out of the box and landed on the floor. Oh dear.

Andy saw the funny side of things as he usually does (off the court at least) and posted the video to his Instagram with the caption: "Woops"

Well, quite.

Andy is in China for another appearance at the Shenzhen Open. In fact, he's revealed that this tournament will be the penultimate one of his year.

It's been a tough one for the former world number one. A load of injury problems has meant that he has only played nine matches this year, winning five and losing four. In fact, it's been so bad that he's fallen down the world rankings to 311.

He's up against the world number 340, Zhizhen Zhang on Tuesday, with the winner facing number one seed David Goffin of Belgium.

Let's hope he can manage to keep himself in the tournament a bit better than he managed to keep the plate inside the box at the presentation the other day.

Luckily, it didn't completely break. Andy was just left staring around looking embarrassed as the officials who were giving the plate to him scrambled around to get it back. Who'd be an elite sportsperson, eh?

With regards to his time off after appearing at the Beijing Open, it looks as if he will be working really hard to get back to something like his best shape for next season.

He recently told the ATP website: "I'm not quite back to where I'd like to be yet, but kind of improving each week.

"Hopefully, I can play some good tennis and get on a bit of a run."

I mean, if this incident is anything to go by, it'll be a long road back to the top for Andy. If anyone is capable of it, though, surely the Scotsman has the determination and drive to do it.

As long as you don't get the same bad luck from breaking a commemorative plate as you would from breaking a mirror.
