Andy Murray, sorry, Sir Andy Murray has received his knighthood today in a ceremony held at Buckingham Palace.

The tennis ace was knighted by Prince Charles following his sporting career that has seen him win three Grand Slam titles.

In a brief statement, the MailOnline reported that he said: "I'm very proud to receive it. It's a nice day to spend with my family; my wife and parents are here.

"I'd have liked to [have brought] my kids but I think they're a bit young. I'll show them the medal when I get home."

The BBC reported that Murray, who is a Unicef UK ambassador, received the knighthood for services to tennis and charity.

The 32-year-old was named in the Queen's New Years Honours in 2016 which completed a monumental year following a second Wimbledon title and finishing the year as world number one.

Back when the news initially emerged that he was being honoured, Andy spoke at the Abu Dhabi tournament he was playing at, saying: "It sounds strange. Obviously it's a big honour.

"It's great recognition for my results of the last few years and it's obviously a very nice way to finish 2016 or start 2017, but I'm more than happy just being known as Andy, that's fine by me."

Some people are never happy, are they?

Sir Andy is planning to retire after this year's Wimbledon although it's not clear whether he will compete as he is still receiving rehabilitation treatment following a hip replacement.

Oh yeah, that's the same surgery that saw him revealing his junk to the world when he shared photographs of his X-ray which showed a perfect outline of his nether regions.

Once seen, never unseen.

He shared the - ahem - candid shot on his Instagram with the caption: "I underwent a hip resurfacing surgery in London yesterday morning...feeling a bit battered and bruised just now but hopefully that will be the end of my hip pain.

"I now have a metal hip as you can see in the 2nd photo."

Among other things, Andy. Anyway, enough of that - congratulations, Sir!
