I'm no stranger to pedantic, joyless fuck-wits going out of their way to be angered at every last bit of frivolity they see. But then again, neither is anyone else in 2016. No matter what you do, no matter how good your intentions may be, there's always gonna be one person who fails to refrain from sticking their useless nose in and pissing on your parade.

Take German Athletics Federation director Thomas Kurschilgen, who told the BBC that he didn't approve of Anna and Lisa Hahner, two marathon runners who held hands as they crossed the finishing line.

"It looked as though they completed a fun and not [an] Olympic [race]," he said.

What a boring bastard.

"We are so proud, happy and full of joy," the two wrote in a blog post. "Our big dream has come true."

The Hahners competed in the marathon final on Sunday and finished 81st and 82nd.

This, according to Kurschilgen, was "disrespectful and a slap in the face to all the other athletes in the German team."

"It was a magical moment that we could finish this marathon together," Anna Hahner told the New York Times. "We did not think about what we were doing."

In a Facebook statement, the twins said they were still proud to be Olympians, despite admitting it was not their best performance.

"The crossing the finish line? Still one of our biggest sporting moments," they said.
