When you rock up to watch a match, you know that you're going to be on the sidelines, enjoying the spectacle of whatever sport you've paid to see. However, Luis Felipe Alvim found himself very much the centre of attention when he went to watch an MMA fight.
He bought a ticket to watch the Fora Fight welterweight title bout between Carlos Eduardo Rufino and Claudinei Kall. But the fight was thrown into disarray when Rufino was overweight by just a single pound.
Kall initially accepted the fight anyway but then pulled out, leaving the stage open for any competitor. Alvim, who's well versed in jiu-jitsu, volunteered to take the empty spot and the organisers accepted.

The 22-year-old had never been fought MMA before, according to MMA Fighting, but stepped into the octagon anyway to see if his skills would pull him through. He was absolutely throttled during the fight, until he managed to get Rufino in a triangle choke, forcing his opponent to tap.

In his MMA debut, he Alvim walked away with the Fora Fight welterweight belt.
He's uploaded a post to Instagram, saying: "I believed all the time that I would win and went there and did. I never imagined that it would be that way, nor in my best dream. I fought well and left with that victory.

"I want to thank God first, then my fiancée, my masters Felipe Silva and Fabiano Silva who believed in me and got me even without training properly for a fight of this size."
After winning the belt, he went a step further and proposed to his girlfriend right there in the octagon, in his sweaty shorts, blood still dripping from his face. From the looks of things, she was very surprised and he couldn't wipe the smile from his mug.

Alvim has told MMA Fighting: "I showed my girlfriend - my fiancée now [laughs] - the trailer of the movie Troy yesterday, in which this kid tells Achilles he'd never fight a giant like Achilles was about to do, and Achilles says, 'That's why your name won't be remembered.' That stuck in my mind."
Not the worst thing to walk into an arena that holds 1,500 people, only to walk away as a champion, with loads of people hugging you, and proposing to your girlfriend all in one night.
