Presenter Charlie Webster is in an incredibly serious condition after reportedly contracting a rare strain of Malaria when she was travelling to Rio.

The former Sky Sports and ITV Sports presenter has been put in an induced coma and is currently on life support.

Initially, it was believed that she was suffering from dehydration after taking part in the six-week 'Ride To Rio' challenge. She cycled 1,600 miles in 39 days and arrived in Rio on August 4.

Before her diagnosis, she had kept fans up-to-date via her social media accounts. However, a note has now been posted on her Instagram on her behalf.

The Sun newspaper spoke to one of her friends who said: "Charlie is battling for survival at the moment - everyone is distraught.

"But she is so strong and a very fit and healthy person in general so we have to keep positive.

"The doctors have now identified the very rare malaria strain she has contracted so she is receiving the right treatment in Rio, with advice being provided by the London School of Tropical Medicine."

The Mirror reported that a friend also said: "She had checked the medical risks and been told she didn't need to take anti malaria drugs because of where she was travelling.

"Charlie started vomiting at the ceremony and thought it was dehydration and general fatigue from the cycle.

"In the early hours after the ceremony she went to hospital and was treated for dehydration."

Fingers crossed that she'll get better soon.
