Did The Simpsons Predict Andy Ruiz Jr.'s Victory Over Anthony Joshua?

Did The Simpsons Predict Andy Ruiz Jr.'s Victory Over Anthony Joshua?

It's a well known fact that The Simpsons has an uncanny talent for predicting the future, from Donald Trump's presidency to the US beating Sweden for an Olympic gold medal in curling.

Now fans are speculating whether the long-running cartoon foreshadowed Andy Ruiz Jr. sensationally beating Anthony Joshua in one of the biggest shocks in the history of heavyweight boxing.

In case you weren't aware, last night's fight (1 June), held at New York's Madison Square Garden, saw Ruiz floor Joshua four times and defeat the boxing titan in a stunning seven-round match.

In the process, he went against the 1-25 odds for Joshua to win and ripped the boxer's IBF, WBO and WBA world heavyweight titles from him. It truly was a match for the ages and will go down in history as one of the unlikeliest victories.

No one could've predicted this to be the outcome... except, of course, The Simpsons. Or at least that's what this recent theory is claiming.

Even before the fight, many compared it Homer's defeat of fictional boxer Drederick Tatum - the show's thinly-disguised Mike Tyson parody - in the episode 'The Homer They Fall'.

This was after Ruiz replaced Jarrell Miller at late notice after the latter failed drug tests, leading to what many described as a 'joke' of a fight.

However, the underdog truly won, just like Homer did in the episode. What's more, Homer's strategy involved taking as much abuse from his opponent as possible before tipping him over when he exhausts himself.

Similarly, Joshua looked exhausted early on in the fight and was knocked down twice in the seventh round. When the referee asked him if he wanted to continue, he quietly replied 'yes' but was unable to take his arms off the side of the ropes.

Simpsons Writer Jokes That The Show Did Predict Future

This led to the ref calling the fight and Ruiz being hailed the new champion. No, Joshua wasn't beaten by a gentle tap in the same way Homer beat his opponent, but you can see the similarities are there.

"I just got beat by a good fighter tonight," said Joshua after the fight. "This is all part of the story and the journey. Fire at heart, boxer by trade.

"He done well, he done what he had to do. Congratulations to the first ever Mexican heavyweight champion. We'll bounce back.

"It's guts and glory, but this is all about the legacy and story. He's the champion for now."

Seems like another one to add to The Simpsons prediction canon - what do you think?
