Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal's UFC 244 fight came to a bloody halt last night, when the cageside doctor ruled Diaz could no longer continue after suffering a bad cut above his eye.

The fight at Madison Square Garden in New York was stopped after the third round, forcing Diaz to give up the belt for Masvidal to assume the title of 'Baddest Motherf***er' on the planet.

Diaz had taken a nasty blow to the head from Misvidal's elbow in the first round - and explained after the fight that he'd hit the same cut he suffered against Anthony Pettis a few months back.

Dana White has since taken to Instagram to say the injury was 'much worse' than it looked, sharing a photo of Diaz's all head stitched-up.

He captioned the photo - which had to be censored by Instagram: "These cuts were much worse then they looked on TV. Respect to @natediaz209 for pushing the Dr to continue."

The two men have already agreed to a rematch, as many fans were left feeling disappointed by the premature end to the fight.

Diaz also hadn't wanted it to end, saying in his post-fight interview in the Octagon: "I didn't think they were gonna stop it. I was getting ready to get started.

"He got the job done like he was supposed to so right on to Jorge!"

In his interview, Masvidal promised his opponent an immediate rematch, saying: "For a fact, I told Nate right now, let's run it back.

"UFC, make it happen. Let's run it back. I don't like to leave the ring like this with my opponent conscious. There's only one way to do it, and that's to baptize them, and I didn't get to baptize Nate, so we're going to run it back."

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was also knocking about at the event last night, having escorted the 'BMF' belt into the octagon, before eventually awarding it to Masvidal.

Elsewhere on the card, Gregor Gillespie and Johnny Walker were both knocked out in the first-round of their respective fights, while Brit Darren Till beat Kelvin Gastelum during his middleweight debut.
