England Fans Are Chanting ‘Are You Watching Germany’

England fans are chanting 'Are you watching Germany' during their final World Cup group game against Belgium.

It's all in the name of banter after defending world champions Germany were humiliated as they were knocked out of the tournament at the first stage on Wednesday.

England have already qualified for the next stage, the knockout rounds, and so fans were taking massive pleasure in rubbing salt in the wounds.

Germany had already travelled home before England kicked off against Belgium on Thursday evening, so the fans in Russia decided to serve up a burn or two.

In case you didn't know, there is a bit of history between England and Germany which goes beyond sport. Ask Wikipedia if you're not sure why.

And that means England supporters are revelling in the fact their team has gone further in the a World Cup than Germany for the first time since they beat them in the final in 1966.

Germany, who lifted the World Cup in 2014, finished rock bottom of Group F after only winning one of their games and losing the other two.

It meant they were sent home in shame, after a 2-0 defeat to South Korea, with some of the media in Germany describing it as the nation's worst nightmare.

England, however, were already qualified for the last 16 of this summer's World Cup in Russia before they kicked off against Belgium, having beaten Tunisia and thrashed Panama.

It remains to be seen who England will play in the knockout stages, where the result against Belgium will determine who they play from either Japan or Colombia.

There weren't high expectations around Gareth Southgate's team but they are on a high and the fans / banter merchants are loving it.
