Floyd Mayweather Says He’ll Soon Train In MMA With UFC Champion

Floyd Mayweather Says He’ll Soon Train In MMA With UFC Champion

Despite announcing his retirement following his boxing win over Conor McGregor last year, it seems as though Floyd 'Money' Mayweather isn't ready to hang up the gloves just yet.

However, it looks like he will be picking up a different pair of 'gloves' as he eyes up a stint in mixed martial arts.

There's been a lot of speculation about whether the 41-year-old would make a crossover to the sport, especially considering McGregor did the opposite for their record breaking bout in Las Vegas.

Speaking to TMZ Sport, Mayweather revealed he would soon be training with UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.

"I'm gonna start soon. We've been texting back and forth. We talked a couple times, so we gonna start working out real soon."

Asked about how he would cope in a sport that isn't just about how powerful your punch is, the undefeated boxer said: "I can wrestle. My wrestling game is not that bad.

"On a scale from one to 10, it's probably a seven. And I think we can take it up to a nine if possible. Of course, my hand game, on a scale of one to 10, is 100. My kicking game, on a scale from one to 10, is probably a four."

China's Richest Man Jack Ma Wants To Fight Floyd Mayweather

This is on the back of months of insider talk that Mayweather would make a foray into MMA.

Journalist Gareth Davies, told talkSPORT: "My soundings are that there are a lot of talks going on in the background, there are a lot of talks around people with Mayweather.

"There are a lot of talks about him potentially having an MMA fight with Conor McGregor.

"Conor McGregor had no chance in a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. People will tune in to see Mayweather get stopped by Conor McGregor and it won't affect his boxing record."

When Mayweather was questioned about who is first potential opponent would be, naturally Conor's name came up. But the boxer said that he's not sure who he'd like to face off against, saying he has to talk to his team and his dad about 'how it's going to play out'.

It seems as though one of the things that will push Mayweather across the line for a proper MMA match is, unsurprisingly, money. "It's all about presenting the right numbers," he told TMZ Sports.

"Of course, they are going to present the right numbers and we are going to make that happen."
