Is The Premier League Really Going to Have A Winter Break?

Is The Premier League Really Going to Have A Winter Break?

The world’s highest paid footballers could be about to get a nice break in January after all of their hard work, the poor things.

I think we'd all like a couple of weeks off at about this time of year. Maybe jet off to somewhere sunny for a fortnight or so to get rid of those post-Christmas blues?

Perhaps we could all get away during the winter for some much needed relaxation and return feeling refreshed and ready for the rest of year, while having avoided a large chunk of the most depressing part of the year.

Well, the chances of that happening are pretty much zero, unless you have a way better job than most people. Even British footballers - who, as you might have heard, earn a load of money every week to kick a ball around - don't get any time off over the winter.

Well that might all be about to change.

Documents that have been sent to broadcasters ahead of the new TV deal (which is expected to be announced next week) outline considerations for giving footballers some time off in the winter, in line with the time off that players in Spain, Germany, France, and Italy get.

The document reads: "The Premier League has been in discussions with the FA and EFL for several months regarding the challenges of the increasingly congested English football calendar and ways in which we can work together to ease fixture congestion while also giving players a mid-season break.

"Provided space can be found in the calendar, we are open to this in principle and will continue constructive discussions with our football stakeholders to seek a workable solution."

So there you have it. The managers and players might finally get their way and have a break from all of the Christmas football mania (which is basically the best time of the season for fans).

They've been after it for a while - Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola recently said: "We are going to kill them. The bosses have to reflect. It's not normal to play 31st and two days later.

"I know the show must go on but that is not normal, they have to control it. They don't protect the players, they are the people we come to watch - not the managers or the press conferences. Here in England you don't protect the players, you have to look for the quality not the quantity."

We are going to KILL them, Pep? They are footballers after all. Most of them pretend to be dead after a tackle already to be fair.
