Jack Grealish has made a statement on social media, confirming reports that he 'stupidly' made the decision to visited a friend's house at the weekend.

After photos of the Aston Villa midfielder went viral on Sunday morning (29 March), when he was spotted outside a friend's flat in the early hours, he's admitted that a friend had invited him to their house and he 'stupidly' accepted - flouting the UK's social distancing rules.

In a video statement on Twitter, the 24-year-old apologised for his actions.

He said: "I just want to say how deeply embarrassed I am by what's happened this weekend.

"I know it's a tough time for everyone at the moment, being locked indoors for so long, and I just got a call off a friend asking to go round to his and I stupidly agreed to do so.

"I don't want anyone to make the same mistake I did, so I urge everyone to stay at home, follow the rules and the guidelines of what we've been asked to do.

"I know for a fact that I'll be doing that in the near future now, and I urge everyone to do the same. I hope everyone can accept my apology and we can move on from this and hopefully, obviously, in the near future, we can all be out enjoying ourselves again once this has all boiled over.

"So cheers guys, thank you."

His club, who he's heavily been linked with a move away from, also released a statement, saying: "Aston Villa is deeply disappointed that one of our players ignored the Government's guidance on staying at home during the Coronavirus crisis.

"Club Captain Jack Grealish has accepted that his decision to leave his house was wrong and entirely unnecessary. It breached the government guidelines which are clear and should be adhered to by everybody.

"The player will be disciplined and fined with the proceeds donated to The University Hospitals Charity in Birmingham."

Grealish was also seen at the scene of an incident in which a £70,000 ($86,000) Range Rover crashed into parked cars.

As reported by MailOnline, a West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We were called to Waterside, Dickens Heath, just before 10am yesterday (March 29) to reports that a Range Rover had crashed into two parked cars in the street.

"The driver left his details with a member of the public at the scene before leaving on foot. Arrangements have now been made to obtain more details around the circumstances of the collision from the driver.

"Anyone with information has been asked to get in touch, via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk quoting log 643 of March 29."

The UK is currently observing social distancing rules, in a bid to try to curb the spread of the world pandemic of Covid-19.
