Corinna Schumacher, the wife of racing legend Michael Schumacher, has given a rare interview as part the upcoming Netflix documentary about the former F1 driver's legacy. Watch the trailer here:

The film, set to be released on 15 September, will feature previously unseen footage of the racing great, who suffered life-changing injuries during a skiing accident eight years ago.

In the trailer, Schumacher's family speak about his 'strong mentality', and how big a role model he's been to them.

Among the tributes, Corinna says she can still feel the strength of her husband of 26 years.

"I just felt that he is somebody special," she says.

"I think that he is simply very strong mentally. Extremely strong. He still shows me how strong he is every day."

Schumacher's outstanding career, which played an integral part in F1's modern popularity, will be the focal point of the documentary, rather than his 2013 accident and subsequent recovery years.

His son, Mick, who is currently forging his own racing legacy, also appears in the trailer.

Adding to his mother's tributes, he says: "When I look at him I think, 'I want to be like that.'"

An array of familiar F1 faces join the cast. Sebastian Vettel, David Coulthard, Bernie Ecclestone and Schumacher's brother Ralph are all set to appear in the film.

It promises new footage that shows 'the many facets of his multi-layered personality'.

Director Vanessa Nocker said: "The greatest challenge for the directors was certainly to find the balance between independent reporting and consideration for the family.

"Corinna Schumacher herself was our greatest support in this.

"She herself wanted to make an authentic film, to show Michael as he is, with all his ups and downs, without any sugar-coating.

"She was great and brave enough to let us do what we wanted, and so we respected and kept her boundaries.

"A very inspiring, warm woman who made a lasting impression on all of us."

The film was originally scheduled for release last year, although the sheer volume of material caused producers to delay on more than one occasion.
