Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson will serve as a pallbearer for Muhammad Ali.

Tyson took a flight from Las Vegas to Louisville, Kentucky today, according to Ali family spokesman Bob Gunnell.

Other pallbearers will include former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis, actor Will Smith and other members of Ali's family.

The processional through Ali's hometown of Louisville is expected to attract thousands as mourners pay their final respects to arguably the greatest boxing champion of all time.

The 19-mile procession will tour landmarks of Ali's life, including his childhood neighbourhood, the gym where he began his boxing training and the Muhammad Ali Center and Muhammad Ali Boulevard.

Seventeen cars will make up the procession which, once over, will see Ali's body buried in a private ceremony at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville.

Ali's public memorial will be held at the KFC Yum! Center at 2pm on Friday.

Ali, a three-time heavyweight champion, died on June 3 at the age of 74.

For me, he really was the greatest!

RIP Muhammad Ali.
