A Brazilian MMA fighter has broken the world record for the most burpees in an hour, managing to perform everyone's least favourite exercise 951 - that's nine hundred and fifty one - times in 60 minutes. You can see his incredible efforts documented in the below video:

This feat of superhuman fitness and endurance was performed by Cassiano Rodrigues Laureano, who also celebrated his 35th birthday on the day of the effort.

Strangely enough, the fighter - who now lives in Singapore - said that he really wanted to do 1,000 in his hour, even though 951 is a new world record.

That's some consolation for him, at least.

Also, he's attempting to raise some much-needed funds for his niece, who was born last year with a heart condition.

Luckily, he was successful in his quest, and it's recently been verified as the world's best by Guinness World Records.

Following his achievement, he said: "I'm tired."

No s***, mate. A total of 951 burpees in an hour works out to around one repetition every 3.8 seconds.

He continued: "It didn't go as smoothly as I thought it would but I'm very, very happy with the accomplishment."

It clearly means a lot to him, as he admitted that he promised himself he'd break the record in order to help his niece and his family, who he hasn't seen since leaving for Singapore in May 2019.

The hero explained: "I don't know when I'll get to see them.

"It is the only thing I can do to help, using my athleticism."

As we mentioned before, his initial goal had been to get through 1,000 in an hour - which would have been one every 3.6 seconds - but an injury a few days out from the attempt made that really difficult.

He's been training for nine months for his goal, which is a heck of a lot of burpees.

The previous record for chest-to-ground burpees in an hour was 879, performed by Nick Anapolsky earlier this year.

As for his own hardship, Laureano said that he could have opted for something a bit easier, but wanted to really push himself to the limits of his own endurance and fitness.

He said: "It's one of the toughest single exercises you can perform. It would not be fun if it was not the hardest.

"I could choose jumping jacks but it's so easy. It has to be something that challenges you to become something better."

If you've got a couple of quid to spare, you can donate to help out Cassiano's niece Rebecca here.
