We've seen world records broken, some excellent sport and a million memes of Usain Bolt, but maybe what Rio 2016 will mostly be remembered for is the amount of shit that went wrong.

Now a Team GB athlete has been robbed at gunpoint, leading to Rio officials considering a ban on British athletes leaving the Olympic Park at night.

The unnamed athlete was robbed in the early hours of Tuesday morning and is said to be uninjured but understandably shaken by the incident.

This is the latest in a number of alleged robberies in Rio, with US swimmer Ryan Lochte claiming he and three teammates were held up - but police are currently searching for the taxi driver in question during the incident and trying to establish all the facts.

Athletes and other members of Team GB have been warned not to wear team clothing while out and about in Rio, and to avoid leaving the park after dark if possible.

An official email was sent out telling those staying at the Olympic Village that even taxis aren't safe at night. The email went on to say: "Rio is NOT a safe environment, and the level of crime has spiked in the last few days.

"Think very carefully about whether it is worth the risk of leaving the village to celebrate after you have finished competing," the Mail reports.

Scary stuff.
