McGregor vs Mayweather 'Approvable' Fight Is A Step Closer And We Can't Wait

Not too long until it's official.

The boxing fight we've all been waiting for is edging closer to reality after the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) described a Floyd Mayweather Jr versus Conor McGregor match-up as 'approvable'.

Even though T-Mobile Arena has already been booked and a date is set for June, the fight still needs the green light from the NAC to be official.

Bob Bennett from the NAC said it would be an honour to host the fight, telling boxingnewsonline: "It's definitely an approvable fight.

"This isn't the first time something like this has happened, but it is a bit of an anomaly. It's unusual because both fighters are phenomenal fighters."

McGregor still has to be granted a boxing licence for Nevada. To get that he'll have to submit the necessary paperwork and pass a physical exam. I'm sure he'll ace it with flying colours.

The Notorious was barred from applying because of a £60,000 fine from the Nevada Athletic Commission. McGregor and Nate Diaz were both fined for throwing cans and bottles at each other during a press conference in the lead up to their UFC 202 bout.

Irishman McGregor initially refused to pay the fine and, after negotiations, it was brought down to £20,000 and 25 hours of community service.

Bob Bennett says: "'We've already met and had a very productive and cordial meeting. I really haven't spoken to him about his intentions, we wanted to clear up the pending litigation with the fine and his attorney requested a re-hearing.

"It was a win-win, they got to articulate their interests and concerns and we were able to do the same."

McGregor has a licence to box in California, but still needs the golden ticket from Nevada for the bout to go ahead.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn told Sky Sports that this month the fight, 'makes such little sense on one side, but so much sense on the other side'.

He continued: "To the man on the street, the non-educated boxing fan, it's the best fighter in the world against the best mixed martial arts guy in the world. To the educated boxing fan, it's a complete disaster. It's terrible, just terrible."

There has been plenty of trash talk going on between the pair since rumours first started about the fight.

Mayweather was on Facebook Live when he said he would, 'fuck McGregor up' and 'slap McGregor when I see him'.

McGregor told EPSN: "I hear the boy talking. The leak came out, it was him that leaked the rumour and it said he gets $100 million and I get $7 million - that's a pay cut to me. I don't take pay cuts."

The fight has been rumoured for months and it will pit two of the biggest egos in MMA and boxing against each other.

McGregor's coach, John Kavanagh, says Mayweather's winning record of 49-0 seems to be especially tantalising. He said: "He's 49-0. I'm sure he wants that 50th fight. It's a nice number."

"Right now, ask the average guy on the street, 'who do you want to see Mayweather fight?', what fight's going to get the most interest, and it would be a superfight with Conor."

Now we just have to get the official word before we can get excited for the showdown.
