Neymar Has Annoyed The Internet With A Misjudged Stephen Hawking Tribute

Despite it being broken, Neymar has managed to put his foot right in it by posting what could be seen as a disrespectful tweet about Stephen Hawking.

Even when the PSG forward isn't on the pitch he's managing to cause controversy. He's currently out injured with a broken metatarsal bone in his foot and is trying to be fit again to lead Brazil's assault on the 2018 World Cup.

However, his social media team have perhaps scored a bit of an own goal when trying to pay tribute to the late Professor Stephen Hawking.

Hawking died earlier today and the whole world has been united in saying how great the man was.

Tributes have been pouring in as world leaders, scientific geniuses, and Nobel Prize winners have queued up to pay respects to one of the most brilliant minds this planet has ever known.

Well, whilst Neymar may not be one of the most brilliant minds this planet has ever produced, his social media team decided to offer his tribute to the list.

They got onto Twitter to post a picture of the footballer in a wheelchair with a protective boot on his foot with a Portuguese caption that translates as: "You have to have a positive attitude and get the best out of the situation in which you find yourself.

"Stephen Hawking"

Needless to say, this has not gone down well, given that Neymar has just got a wee bit of a sore foot and Dr Hawking suffered from Motor Neurone Disease for the best part of 55 years.

Given that Neymar and his team normally seem to be pretty good with social media, this is out of character. Whilst it is certainly stupid and has missed the mark by about a million miles, he probably didn't mean any harm by it.

He might even be a big Hawking fan. A Brief History Of Time will have been translated into Portuguese, surely?

The internet isn't interested in that of course, and the response has been - well - exactly as you would expect it to be.

Some people have been taking things too far - again, as you'd expect given the level of anger on the internet these days - whilst we don't want Neymar to get hurt, or any of that, it might be nice if he thought for just a second before tweeting.
